Infant Mental Health Collaborative

The Langley Infant Mental Health Collaborative, which includes representation from a variety of community organizations, is excited to share their public awareness campaigns.

The focus of Talk to Me, Play with Me, Carry Me – #mywellbeingstartswithyou is to increase parents’ and caregivers’ awareness of the importance that simple every day interactions can have on the wellbeing and mental health of their baby.

The messaging has been designed to highlight some of the current concerns with parental over-use of technology as well as over-use of baby equipment and the impact that both can have on the mental health and overall development of infants. This is accomplished by showing the non-preferred behavior {in black and white imagery} in contrast to the preferred behavior {in full-colour imagery}.

The campaign includes the following components, all with the key messaging of Talk to Me, Play with Me, Carry Me – #mywellbeingstartswithyou

  • Distribution of a poster, designed in partnership with the BC Pediatric Society, throughout the community including community centres, health units, Strong Starts, Early Years Centres, Family Physician, and Pediatrician offices, child care centres, Family Resource programs, Child Development Centres and any other location where families gather.

A message by the Langley Infant Mental Health Collaborative to increase parents’ and caregivers’ awareness of the importance that simple every day interactions can have on the well-being and mental health of their child. Presented in the child’s voice and from their perspective, showing what it is like for them when their “big people’ are distracted and rushed compared to when we take time to talk with them, play with them and learn with them. This is the third video in a series and part of a larger Public Awareness campaign which includes a poster with the same messaging as well as bandanas for babies (provided to every baby born in Langley, British Columbia, balls for preschoolers and frisbees for kindergarten aged children – all with the related campaign messaging.

Funding was generously provided by the Ministry for Children and Family Development to cover the initial costs associated with the creation of the first video and bandanas. We welcome other communities to print the poster and share the video and hashtag. For information about how to purchase bandanas, and regarding the campaign in general, please contact:
